Important information about screen glitch following computer update on the Nanoimager laptop

This note addresses a bug which came to our attention recently that can result in various resolution issues on the Nanoimager laptop. This seems to be related to either a Windows or a Lenovo update changing the display settings of the computer. Common symptoms are:

  • The laptop screen is completely black

  • The laptop screen is set to the wrong resolution

  • The laptop screen is set to the wrong orientation.

We describe here a way to fix the issue, but feel free to contact our Support team if needed.

This issue will only be shown when the Thunderbolt/USB-C cable of the Nanoimager is connected to the computer but will revert to normal when the cable is unplugged. If this is not what you are experiencing, contact our support team.

It is important to note that ONI recommends performing Windows and Lenovo or Dell updates but to disconnect the Thunderbolt/USB-C cable that links the computer to the Nanoimager during those updates to minimize the risk of issues.

Instructions to fix the issue:

  • Unplug the Thunderbolt/USB-C cable to check that this is the correct issue

  • Log into the computer if that was not the case already

  • (re) Connect the Thunderbolt/USB-C cable, which should change the screen display

  • Press the Windows key and P at the same time on the keyboard

  • This will open a window on the right side, click on PC screen only

  • Right click on the Desktop and click on Display settings

  • Change the settings to match the image below noting that:

    • The numbers 1 and 2 do not matter

    • The PC screen needs to be selected as “Make this my main display” in the Multiple Display

    • Scale and layout should match the numbers shown below

If you are unable to make those changes or if you require any additional assistance, please contact us for support.

Thank you,
